I am an ex-pat in two senses: I’m British, but I’ve been living in the US since the end of 2001; and since 1989 I’ve been living, on and off, in Susan Sontag’s Kingdom of the Sick. I’ve also lived in Italy. Most of what I write will be about these three ways of being out-of-place.
